One Community Action (OCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the future and vibrancy of the Santa Maria Valley community. Since 2016 OCA has worked to advance culturally competent solutions that address systemic inequities at the root of violence in our community through our work in: Community Building & Engagement, Leadership Development, Education & Advocacy.
OCA is seeking an experienced, driven Community Organizer to organize community stakeholders towards educational equity and access in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District (SMJUHSD). The Community Organizer will develop a bridge that connects the needs and priorities of the community to key stakeholders. The Community Organizer position is a temporary contract position for Spring 2022, with potential to grow, dependent on funding.

The Community Organizer will develop a bridge that connects the needs and priorities of the community to key stakeholders. The Community Organizer position is a temporary contract position for Spring 2022, with potential to grow, dependent on funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a community leadership volunteer council that is representative of the Santa Maria Valley and facilitate a regularly scheduled calendar of meetings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District (SMJUHSD) and community member stakeholders to promote educational equity and access.
- Build and maintain collaborative efforts with local, regional, and national partners.
- Attend district, stakeholder and community meetings.
- Conduct and create campaigns that engage the broader OCA community and community leaders.
- Advise and train OCA community council on advocacy and strategic planning for local campaigns on physical and mental health disparities among the OCA community.
- Work with OCA staff to plan, recruit and execute programming booths and events, which include and is not limited to: Community Leadership Summits, Breaking of the Bread, OCA staff training, and OCA partner events.
- Work with OCA leadership to track and evaluate program through an internal database, evaluations, and other qualitative and quantitative tools.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 2 years’ experience in Community Organizing and/or 2 years of experience working in the field of community development or other relevant community work.
- Associate’s degree in social services or related field or have prior employment or intern experience with transferable skills to that of a community organizer.
- Hold a commitment and passion for learning from and working with the community served by the mission of OCA.
- Be a strategic thinker and consistently exhibit the ability to follow through with integrated approaches to issues, while forecasting possible and realistic result
- Strong written and verbal skills including large group presentations and public speaking.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to set own work priorities, manage responsibilities and time.
- Ability to develop and carry out effective strategies for action.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is required.
- Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft, and office equipment.
- Have a valid driver’s license with insurance and dependable transportation.
- Able to lift supplies up to 35 lbs*.
